How to Cope, Deal with Cancer Phobia?

For a cancer patient, the experience of this chronic disease is usually stressful. They may undergo severe depression, anxiety, fear and distress at the first place. The major support that you can provide to a cancer patient is to boost up his/her confidence, courage and will power. You have to make them realize that they should have enough confidence in themselves that they can win the battle against the dangerous disease. Emotional support from family, friends and relative can help the patient to regain his/her confidence and do not let the disease overwhelm his/her nerves.

A diagnosis of cancer can bring up a range of strong emotions in the patient like fear, stress; sadness, anxiety etc and these emotions try to overpower the patient’s nerves when he/she is undergoing the intensive cancer treatments. It is just the moral and emotional support of the loved ones and doctors that help the patient to build up his courage and instead of accepting his defeat fight till his/her last breathe.

  • Think of some creative activity in which the patient is interested and try to engage him/her in little things.
  • Present the patient some read worthy books that increase his/her confidence.
  • If financial support is required, help the patient in a way that does not hurt him/her.
  • Spend quality time with the patient. Do not leave him/her alone.
  • Treat the patient as normal. Talk to him/her about every day things and avoid depressing talk.
